January 7, 2010 – The nation’s number one cosmetic brand has developed a new partnership with the Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) program, an organization dedicated to addressing the global need for clean , safe water. The company has donated $500,000 to the project and launched the “Clean Makeup for Clean Water” campaign around the action.

The donation will help CSDW provide 50 million liters of drinking water to children in need around the world, and help to prevent some of the 4,000 daily deaths attributed to unsafe water consumption. The campaign will deliver clean, purified drinking water to needy areas via low-cost, PURâ„¢ packet technology that purifies even heavily-contaminated drinking water so it meets World Health Organization standards for safe drinking water.

The campaign has also been designed to facilitate consumer involvement. Visitors to the new Clean Makeup for Clean Water website can submit short videos explaining how they give back to the world to improve the lives of others, and “why this makes you beautiful, inside and out.” Winners of the contest will win a COVERGIRL photo shoot as well as a humanitarian trip to Africa. The company will also purchase and donate one week’s worth of drinking water for one child for every entry received.
