February 22, 2010 – Global tea brandTetley, the second largest manufacturer and distributor of tea, has announced its commitment to completing Rainforest Alliance Certification by 2016 and to purchasing all of its tea products from Rainforest Alliance Certified TM(RACTM) farms.

The Tetley brand is widely recognized in 70 countries, and with their move towards R.A. Certification the brand will have a positive impact across global supply chains.  The partnership will set an example for growers by encouraging them to focus on the social and environmental challenges they face, and for consumers by the affirmation that any of Tetley’s tea they drink is R.A. Certified and has met the ecological, social, and economic standards of the Sustainable Agriculture Network(SAN).

VP of Marketing David Allen of Tetley’s parent company, Tata Beverage Group, says that “holding Tetley to such high values can help us change the nature of the tea industry, better the lives of those who grow and pick our tea and lessen the industry’s impact on the environment.”

Tetley will also remain an active member of the Ethical Tea Partnership(ETP), an alliance of over 20 international tea packers who work together to promote sustainability within the industry.  The ETP’s existing relationship with the Rainforest Alliance will help facilitate the launch of Tetley’s RACTM tea bag and loose-leaf tea products, which will be available in Australia and Europe in 2011, and in the U.S., U.K., and Canada in 2012.
