February 10, 2010 – Yellow+Blue, a certified organic wine brand of importer J. Soif, Inc., announced yesterday that it has made two partnerships that will make the company the only wine importer in the U.S. to be carbon-neutral, as well as the only importer in the world to donate a portion of sales to global microloans.
Through eco-friendly Tetra Paks, Y+B is a brand that demonstrates how wines can travel the world without the high carbon footprint and shipping costs of glass bottles – 46% less to be exact. The other 54% will be offset through the company’s partnership with Renewable Choice Energy, in which 472 metric tons of carbon credits were purchased. With a 100% carbon-neutral brand, Y+B founder Matthew Cain is proud of the investment, noting that eco-conscious consumers can now have their wine and drink it too.
Concurrently, Y+B has also partnered with Kiva, the world’s first micro-lending site that connects 662,000 people through $117 million in ‘loans that change lives.’ By giving 1% of each sale to Kiva, Y+B is now the only wine importer in the world that is committed to helping 290,000 entrepreneurs in 51 countries to create companies that will give back to their community.
Premal Shah, President of Kiva.org, states:”Yellow+Blue’s decision to work with Kiva is an important milestone for both of our organizations. We’re looking forward to all the positive things to come from this partnership and admire its dedication in helping to make Kiva the world’s hub for alleviating poverty.”
