March 19, 2010 – International resort developers Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) announced yesterday the launch of Sands Eco 360 degrees, a sustainable development program promising “a commitment to sustainable water, energy, cleaning, recycling, and waste management policies.”

Sands Eco 360 was created as a comprehensive way for LVS to respect and protect local environments, natural resources, climate, and communities where it operates.  Since many of these geographical regions are in areas where resources are limited, like Las Vegas, LVS sees incorporating sustainability into its development program as the natural thing to do.

To build a successful sustainability program, the Sands Eco 360 program spans three pillars:

  1. People: the company is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, and to improving the quality of life in the communities in which it operates.
  2. Planet: LVS aims to minimize ecological impact through LEED-Silver NC at the Palazzo, and LEED-Gold EB at the Venetian and the Sands Expo Center.
  3. Profit: managing costs through recycling programs, sustainable purchases, energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Without compromising luxury for their guests, LVS will utilize the Sands Eco 360 program to encompass sustainable construction, ongoing environmental policies, and education about its best practices and innovations to help others become more eco-friendly.  Current development and energy programs at the company’s Venetian resort and Sands Expo and Convention Center are saving enough electricity to power more than 6500 U.S. homes a year.

According to President and COO Michael Levin,  “Green business is good business.” LVS saves $4 for every $1 spent on a sustainable development program.  “The launch of Sands Eco 360 degrees demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and operations. Clearly there are important business advantages to operating in a sustainable manner, but when sound business practices are married with sustainable efforts that benefit the environment and our communities, the impact is immeasurable.”
