Microsoft Xbox console gets a wooden shape. Famous sculptor Ben Winfield has carved out an enchanting Xbox console and its controller in timber. It looks incredible to see the famous gaming console designed completely using wood. The wooden Xbox console and its controller highlight every physical feature the original devices have; the exact shape and buttons, but the color is different.

But, the wooden Xbox won’t power on and play your favorite games. However, the console itself gives fantastic pleasure for our eyes since it is built completely from woods. The wooden Xbox console and its controller are two separate creations right now. They are not attached. Maybe, Ben will certainly be using a twine to connect the Xbox console with its controller.

The wooden Xbox console shows up Xbox logo, power and eject buttons. Controller of Xbox is also a nice design with all features of the real device. Ben Winfield has modeled the shape of an original Microsoft Xbox device to from the gaming console from timber, instead of the famous Xbox 360 or Xbox 360 Slim.

Ditching the toxic paints, a Toronto-based artist makes chewed pieces of bubblegum his choice to create amazing celebrity portraits. Jason Kronenwald started playing with this strange material back in 1996 and the latest addition to his name is “A Fresh Pack of Gum Blondes.” His latest work features portraits of famous blondes, from Britney Spears to Madonna to even Hillary Clinton, all obtained from chewing gum.

Kronenwald doesn’t use any harmful dye for the color, instead he obtains the required colors and tones from different colored gums. The perfect portraits are formed by working with the gum on a plywood surface, which is then sealed with an epoxy resin that protects and preserves it for long periods of time. These unique artworks are truly inspiring.

Trash is never trash to an artist and proving this right is to Parisian craftsman, artist and bricoleur extraordinaire Garbage, a.k.a. Gilles Eichenbaum. This creative mind refurbishes old, useless objects like rusty colanders, kettles, pots, toasters and pans into unbelievable lamps. Whenever he was in need of a lampshade or furniture, he would craft something beautiful from whatever he found around him. This is how his journey of such immense talent started and eventually shaped into a serious business. It’s amazing to see such uniquely artful creation come out from recycled materials.

Imagine being served a beautiful landscape to satisfy your hunger? Sounds lip-smacking, doesn’t it? Inspired by the work of American landscape photographer Ansel Adams’ works like The Wizard of Oz and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Carl Warner converts those picture perfect landscapes into amazing food masterpieces.
His journey to achieve something extraordinary begins with drawing a sketch of the foodscape, after which he uses various food items to create the set. Then he takes photos of the mind-blowing creation and retouches them on his Mac. Carl often takes help from model makers and food stylists to create his sets. This creative head imagines his own unique landscapes and brushes them into his own inimitable canvas using paints that no one could have ever imagined.

The world has already witnessed various bottle houses and a unique bottle temple and adding to list of these eco architectures this time is the glass bottle house from Novoshakhtinsk, Russia. Built by Olga Queen, the eco-friendly house is made from nearly 5,000 glass bottles that is managed to collect over a period of six months. Using some wood for the framework and concrete to fix the bottles in place, Olga has made herself a little dream house from cheap and environment-friendly materials. The air-filled bottles offers great insulation, creating a cozy little place to survive in Russia’s freezing cold weather. The cute little dwelling looks as if it’s out from some fairy tale.

Author: Bonnie Alter
Original Publication Date: October 6, 2010

It’s iconic, a symbol of Britishness the world over: the red telephone box. But no longer, they are disappearing as fast as you can say “cell phone.”

The Brit’s are huge users of mobile phones (85% of all adults own one) so no one uses the boxes anymore, except as ads for sex-shops and other dubious pleasures. Now they are being offered to communities for £1 in an “Adopt a Kiosk” scheme, and are being recycled for some astonishing and eccentric uses…

The empty and often vandalised phone boxes are a huge expense for BT (British Telecom); each one costs £700 ($1,100) to keep up so they have been handing themover to communities and they are just about to give their 1,000th one away.

BT held a competition to determine the most unique usages. The winner featured a mannequin dressed as a regularly changing seasonal, historical or fictitious character. Other usages include renting it to local community people for a week to make their own exhibits, posting poems, a vegetable swap and magazine swap location.

This may be on of the smallest book exchange or library in the country. This booth inMarton-cum-Grafton is being used for a book exchange, organised by the local library and school.

Image from the BBC“>BBC

The most famous is The Gallery on the Green in Yorkshire. It claims to be the smallest art gallery in the world. The Gallery is run by part time volunteers from the village of Settle.

Image from the BBC

They show 24 picture postcard sized pieces of art work regularly. Started last year, their next exhibition will be featuring selections from Brian May’s (ex Queen guitarist) new book ‘A Village Lost and Found’. It is appropriate for this spot because it is a book of reproductions of photographs from an Oxfordshire village of the 1850s.

In 2002, there were 92,000 payphones across the UK. Now there are still more than 12,500, however over half of them don’t make a profit.

The first incarnation of the red phone box was designed by architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott for a competition in 1924. This design, the K2, was introduced in 1926, predominately in London. Ten years later Scott refined his design and the famous K6 or ‘Jubilee Kiosk’ was introduced nationwide to celebrate George V’s Silver Jubilee.

Made from used drawing pins, the Pin Castle recreates the same medieval charm that had once invoked gothic architects to shape up citadels for knights and lords. The Bournemouth (UK)-based artist Max Galbraith kept collecting discarded pins from every notice board he came across before reusing them to bring his unitary castle into existence.

Max summarizes his art as he says:

The work I craft is always an extension of myself, although a completely separate, tangible object, visible for the interpretation of an individual spectators opinion. I believe my work is, an expression of self-portraiture via construction.

With a definite emphasis on the term “recycled,” the mini castle is inspiring enough to drive a soul or two to think seriously about the recycling aspect of discarded objects for sure.

Some severest climatic conditions, a still callous human unconcern, a definite lack of adaptability, and certain other factors rallied to blot out certain creatures of their earthly existence years ago. As it’s never possible to bring them back to life, an eco-conscious industrial designer Lin Zhang has found her way of moral redemption. Through her thoughtful art dubbed Bottled Animals, she morphs glass bottles into a grotto that leads one to the time when these mortals were very much alive.

Lin etches her creativity on specimen bottles and fills them with formaldehyde to validate her concern. As one looks into these bottles, he could feel some of these creatures move along the walls of bottles. Great art, to say the least!
